Smbup no write permission5/10/2023 In your case since you have a mixed environment with multiple versions, it makes things even more complicated and confusing. I can confirm this does help in some cases, but it's not panacea.Īnother thing to keep in mind is that once the permissions are borked up, they stay that way until you fix them, so make sure you correct the permissions problems before doing any testing to see if the issue is resolved. Many people have reported success by removing Apple's SMB protocol from the equation and reinstalling the original SAMBA protocol. I'm not sure if this will help if the server has Yosemite or Mavericks, but it is easy to try. This supposedly causes Mac OS to downgrade to a lower version of the SMB protocol, which can bypass some problems with the newer protocols. One thing that has helped some people is to connect to the server using CIFS:// instead of SMB://. A quick Google search reveals the extent of the problems. Unfortunately, they did a pretty poor job of it, and it's been highly problematic. A few versions back, Apple dropped SAMBA and implemented their own special version of the SMB protocol. Share permissions are just plain broken for the last couple of versions of OS X. I've pretty much given up on Mac servers in mixed environments for this reason, among others. The client Windows Machines are Running Windows 7 Pro and 8.1 Pro The client mac machines are running Yosemite, Mavericks and Mountain Lion I can replicate the same problem to happen on my Yosemite Server too This has been happening since I upgraded to OSX Mavericks on that server. I find myself using the "Apply Settings to Enclosed Items" option 3 times a day to try and keep the permissions in check. The idea is for the parent folder to maintain it's permissions as well as apply them to the sub folders created inside too, and it is not doing that. When I "Apple + I" the sub-folder created, it does not have the permissions of the parent folder, but instead has the user account that created it with read and write and no access to the "Everyone" group Here is my problem, when a user writes to this folder from either Mac or PC, and I try access the folder on another user account (which is listed in the group to have rights to the folder) it shows a Red, No Entry, Sign on the Mac's Finder and Brings up a permission's error on Windows Explorer. The AD Group is managed by the Domain Controller so that, by design, I am able to add and remove users from the group, with out needing to change the Mac's ACL and Share Permissions too. The way I assign permissions to that shared folder is by using an AD Group and adding it to the Mac's ACL with Read and Write Permissions. The folder in question is a temporary storage folder for my users to put files on so they can access them on other machines easily.Īll machines, including the Mac Machine I host the folder on, is Windows Active Directory intergrated. I am having an issue with permssions on my Mac Server's Folders when I write data onto those folders from other machines, both Windows and MAC, as they are shared folders.
